'Buds' tops Czech Lions film awards

Killer Joe Will get NC-17 Likely To Appeal Rating

Pixomondo opens Baton Rouge branch

Pixomondo, the visual effects studio that took home an Oscar for "Hugo" on Sunday, is opening a branch in Baton Rouge, La., the company announced Wednesday. Pixomondo initially invested $1.2 million in the more than 6,000 square foot facility at the Celtic Media Centre. In an unusual disclosure, the office of Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said Pixomondo will hire 50 people in its first year, expanding to 75 by the end of year two, and that average annual salaries will top $65,000. The Pixomondo Baton Rouge branch will service movies, TV and commercials, whether shot in Louisiana or elsewhere in the world. Pixomondo has a unique structure among vfx houses as it has numerous branches around the world, including Los Angeles, London, China, Canada and several in Germany (where it began). Company founder Thilo Kuther said Pixomondo has already partnered with Louisiana State U.'s science departments "to help set up remote render farms and virtualization with our other studios."
